Using Kodi with Chromecast is a dead-easy process, but if you’re new to this operation then follow our guide on how to setup Kodi on Chromecast.

Kodi is a revolutionary streaming app to find all your favourite movies, TV shows, music and video content in one place. Chromecast is the best-selling streaming device sold in the United States, with more than 30 million units sold. Together, they’re a match made in heaven.

What is Kodi?

Kodi is a streaming software that allows you to install add-ons into its interface to watch movies, TV shows, listen to music and watch video content via a whole bunch of third-party services.

For example, you can connect Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, free online streaming movie streaming websites, and more onto Kodi, and then browse through it all in one comprehensive and easy to navigate interface.

Due to this wide level of integration potential, Kodi has become one of the most popular ways to stream movies on Android and PC, as well as on other mobile and console platforms.

Kodi – the ultimate streaming experience

Downloading Kodi is free and simple. While it’s not on the Google Play Store (due to the fact that some third-party add-ons allow you to watch pirated content), you can easily download it from our website – you’ll need to first allow your mobile device to recognise unknown sources.

To do this, simply go on the “Settings” page on your Android device, select “Security” and then check the options to “Allow Unknown Sources.” Your device will now be able to install apps and apk games that haven’t been made available on the Play Store (for whatever reason), as well as new versions of existing apps on the store that haven’t been released yet.

Once you’ve got Kodi, you can begin watching tons of content online for free, as well as connect your Netflix, YouTube, and other accounts and cast them to your TV if you please.

What is Chromecast?

Chromecast was released by Google back in 2013 and has since had several new generations released, each with more capacity than the last.

If you’ve not tried Chromecast yet, then you can purchase it for $35 from the Google Store, and have it shipped to your door the next working day. The clever little streaming device plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and allows you to watch stuff from your laptop, smartphone, tablet, and more, right on your TV.

Assuming you’ve got Chromecast – which we can safely assume you do, if you’re reading this article – then let’s get straight to it. First, we’ll cover how to install Chromecast on your TV (you can skip this part if you’ve already figured it out). After that, we’ll cover how to watch Kodi on your TV with Chromecast.

Let’s get right into it.

How to Install Chromecast

To install Chromecast on your TV, you need to plug in your Chromecast to the HDMI or USD in the back of your TV. Next, you need to make sure that both the mobile device you’re using and Chromecast are both connected to the same wireless network.

Once you’ve confirmed this, you must download the Google Home app from the Google Play Store onto your mobile device.

Now, you’ll need to follow the instructions in the app to setup Chromecast – it’s an easy process and the app will guide you with simple instructions along the way.

Now you’ve got all the basics on how to setup Chromecast – you can get to work setting up Kodi so that it streams via the device onto your TV. No longer will you be confined to that small screen!

How to Use Kodi on Chromecast

So, now you’ve got your Chromecast all setup, it’s time to use Kodi for Chromecast. First of all, you’ll need to download the Kodi app onto the device that you’re connecting to Chromecast with.

Simply go on to the Chromecast app on your mobile device, open the menu and select “cast screen/audio”, now select the TV.

Next, open Kodi on your device and select the video you want to play. It will be cast onto the TV, although, with this method, you won’t be able to use your phone – make or take calls or even lock the screen, as you’ll need to keep the stream playing on the screen for the TV to mirror it. This obviously eats into your battery.

It’s the simple option, but it’s also the least effective one. Let’s look at a more complex, but ultimately more beneficial method of streaming Kodi on Chromecast.

The More Complex (and More effective) Way

This way will take a little more time and tech whiz – but if you follow these instructions carefully, then you’ll still be able to cast Kodi in no time. This option means that you don’t have to mirror your mobile device, and therefore you can still use it as normal while casting Kodi as well. This means that you can save more battery, and use your phone while watching Kodi on your TV.

Okay, now, let’s get into it:

  • First, launch ES File Explorer on your device.
  • Tap the menu icon in the top left, and select “Settings.”
  • Scroll down and go on “Display settings”
  • Enable the “Show hidden files” option.
  • Next, find the .xml file you downloaded earlier.
  • It should be in the Download folder in the ES File Explorer app.
  • Copy and paste that file into Kodi’s userdata directory.
  • Select the file, select the “Copy” option at the bottom.
  • Open the Kodi userdata folder by going to Android > Data > xbmc.kodi > files > .kodi > userdata.
  • Then tap “Paste” at the bottom.

That’s it, now you can watch Kodi on Chromecast. Simple, right? Well… the first option is easier, but we highly recommend this option for convenience.

After all, you’ll probably be wanting to use your phone at some point while you’re watching TV, right? And with this option, your viewing experience won’t be interrupted with incoming calls, texts, and more.

We hope that this tutorial was helpful. If you have any further questions about Kodi, Chromecast, or any other app for Android, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch, and we’ll get to work on putting together a tutorial for you.

That’s a wrap, folks!
